CENTRE CO. OWNER-OCCUPIED REHABILITATION PROGRAM

Centre County, through the Centre County Planning and Community Development Office, had received a federal grant through the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development (DCED) to provide funding to rehabilitate homes of low-income households in the Penns Valley Region. The goal of this program is to improve the quality of housing stock through rehabilitation and to preserve neighborhoods and communities in the Region.

Later this fall, applications will be taken in the communities of Aaronsburg, Centre Hall Borough, Madisonburg, Millheim Borough, Rebersburg and Spring Mills for this program (CCOOR). This will provide an opportunity for income-qualified homeowners to bring their eligible homes into compliance with established minimum property standards in order to provide safe, decent housing.

The total amount of the repairs to a dwelling is secured to the property in the form of a forgivable loan of up to $20,000 for rehabilitation, and a grant of up to $7,500 for lead reduction work. The COOR program will assist eligible households whose income is at or below 80% of the Centre County Area Median Family Income (up to $53,850.00 for a 4-person household).

To request an application package, please contact the Program Administrator at 814-278-4701. Please note that applications will be sent out in October.

For additional information you may call Linda Marshall at the Centre County Planning and Community Development Office at 814-355-6791.

New census numbers prove that many prefer the Township way of life. The 2010 U.S. Census revealed that more than 5.5 million Pennsylvanians - or 44 percent of the population - are choosing to live in townships, where local leaders are never more than a phone call away.
